Natural Timber

At Lifespan Kids, we take pride in crafting products with the highest quality natural timber to ensure the longevity and safety of our play equipment.
Our timber frames are built with a focus on both strength and sustainability, designed to handle a tough playtime while being kind to the environment.

Fir Timber

We use high-quality Fir timber, which is naturally resistant to decay and insects. This creates a safer play environment that also requires less maintenance. Even when exposed to harsh weather, fir timber provides impressive durability to give you peace of mind.

Smart Support Structures & Bracing

Smart Support Structures & Bracing

Our timber products are engineered with advanced support structures and bracing. We’ve developed these structural components with experienced engineers and carpenters to ensure maximum stability and safety for your child, making sure the frame stays solid even during active daily use.

3-Axis A-Frame Design

3-Axis A-Frame Design

We utilise a 3-axis A-frame design, which is superior to the more common 2-axis frame designs. This unique structure offers better load distribution and stability, and results in a design that has less points of failure. Our unique design ensures your product remains secure and stable for years to come.

Oversized Swing Beams

Oversized Swing Beams

Our swing beams are oversized to ensure they can handle the weight load comfortably. By choosing larger beams, our swing sets are better able to maintain stability through years of use.

High Temperature Treatment

High Temperature Treatment

All our timber undergoes a high-temperature treatment process that enhances its durability and stability. This is a natural, chemical-free process that increases resistance to the weather and prevents the timber from warping or splitting over time, even in harsh outdoor environments.

Seasoned (Kiln Dried)

Seasoned (Kiln Dried)

We use seasoned timber across our range, meaning the moisture content has been carefully reduced in a kiln drying process. Freshly cut wood is full of moisture, which can cause it to twist, warp or crack. By removing this moisture, seasoned timber becomes more stable and less prone to damage, making it ideal for furniture and play equipment.

Tested to Australian Safety Standards

Tested to Australian Safety Standards

All our products made from natural timber are rigorously tested to meet Australian Safety Standards. These tests not only assess potential hazards like sharp edges or fall heights but also evaluate the structural integrity of the product. It guarantees the use of non-toxic and non-flammable materials, creating an environment that is free from harmful or dangerous components. We ensure every piece meets the highest safety criteria for your child’s protection.

What to expect from products built from natural timber:

Natural timber, while incredibly strong and long-lasting, can sometimes show natural signs that come with the material. Here's what you can expect and how it impacts the quality and safety of your products:

  • Timber Checks & Cracks

It’s common for natural timber to develop small cracks over time. These are not a sign of poor quality but rather a natural part of the wood’s aging process as it adjusts to changes in moisture and temperature.

  • What causes wood to shrink?

Wood shrinks as it loses moisture. This is particularly noticeable in the first few months after the timber has been seasoned or during changes in weather. As the timber dries further, it will naturally contract.

  • Does this affect quality?

Minor cracks in the wood do not affect the structural integrity of your product. They are simply cosmetic, a part of the timber’s natural settling process. As long as the cracks are small and do not go through the thickness of the timber, your product remains safe and durable.

  • How long does it take for timber to dry?

Seasoned timber is already dried, but newly treated or unseasoned timber may take several months to fully dry and settle. During this time, slight changes in shape or small cracks may occur, but these will not affect the overall strength of the frame.

  • Is this unsafe?

No, these minor natural changes are perfectly normal and safe. However, if the cracks are excessively deep or wide, we recommend having the product checked for structural integrity.

  • When should cracks be a concern?

Cracks become a concern if they compromise the strength or stability of the structure. If you notice a crack that is deep or runs through the width of a major load-bearing piece, it’s best to consult with us or a professional to ensure the safety of the structure.

    Maintenance

  • Why Should You Maintain Timber Products?

Timber is a natural material that requires care to maintain its stability and appearance. By conducting regular checks of your equipment, you reduce the risk of nasty accidents, as well as simply extending the lifespan of the structure, allowing your family to enjoy it for longer.

  • What Should You Do?

To maintain your timber play equipment, we recommend cleaning it regularly to remove dirt and moisture buildup. Apply a timber oil or sealant every 12 months or so to protect against weather and wear. Try to keep the timber free from excessive moisture, which can cause the wood to warp. Always check the structure for any loose bolts or signs of deterioration, particularly after rough use.

    Can you modify products?

While you’re free to modify Lifespan Kids products to suit your needs, please note that doing so may affect the compliance with Australian Safety Standards. We highly recommend consulting with us before making any alterations to ensure that your product remains safe and compliant with these standards.

    Sourced from Sustainable Forests

We are committed to sustainability and source all of our timber from responsibly managed forests. By choosing Lifespan Kids products, you can feel confident that the timber used is harvested using eco-friendly practices, preserving the environment for future generations.

At Lifespan Kids, we pride ourselves on taking the time to carefully select premium natural timber and conduct rigorous safety testing, so that you can trust that your child’s play equipment is built to last.
